About colour blindness
Design tips
- Never use colour alone to carry meaning: add labels, icons, patterns or position.
- Avoid red against green (and green against brown). Blue with orange works for almost everyone.
- Vary lightness, not just hue: if two colours look the same in Achromatopsia, they may clash for others too.
- Charts: label lines directly, use dashes or markers, and keep legends close to the data.
- Links and errors: underline links, and pair red error states with an icon and text.
