Make a beat online for free, with no download
If you want to try making beats without installing software or paying for a music program, open Beat Maker. It's a drum machine with a step sequencer, a bass synth, a lead synth with a piano roll, eight patterns you can chain into a song, and WAV export. Every sound is made live by your browser, so there's nothing to download, and nothing you make is uploaded. Think of it as a free first step before a full DAW like FL Studio.
Step by step
- Open Beat Maker. To hear what it can do, choose File → Example: Boom bap (or House, or Lo-fi) and press Play or the Space bar.
- To start your own, choose File → New beat. Set the tempo in BPM and pick a Sound: Punchy, Lo-fi or Boom kit.
- In Drums, click the squares to add hits. Drag across a row to fill several at once. Shift-click (or long-press on a phone) for a louder accent. Click a drum's name to hear it, and use M (mute), S (solo) and the slider for its volume.
- Add Swing to give the beat a laid-back, shuffled feel.
- In Synths, pick Bass, then click in the piano roll to add notes; drag right while adding to make a note longer, and click a note to remove it. Change the wave, brightness and release to shape the sound, and the octave to reach higher or lower notes. Do the same for Lead.
- Make variations with the pattern buttons A to H. Copy to next empty duplicates the pattern so you can change a few hits for a fill.
- In Song, press Add to chain patterns in order (for example A A A B), then switch Play to Song to hear the whole thing.
- Press Export WAV to save the pattern (repeated 1 to 16 times) or the whole song. Use File → Save beat file to keep the project and open it later.
Who it helps
- Beginners who want to understand how beats are built, steps, swing, bass and melody, before spending money on software.
- Students on school or library computers where installing a music program isn't allowed.
- Video makers and podcasters who need a short, original background loop they're allowed to use.
- Music teachers showing rhythm patterns in class on any laptop or tablet.
Why it's private
Beat Maker is a static page. The drums and synths are generated by your browser's audio engine, your project is saved in your browser's storage on your device, and the WAV is rendered by your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the page's security policy blocks it from sending data to other websites. It works offline after the first visit.
Tips and limits
- Start with the drums, a kick on beats 1 and 3 (steps 1 and 9), a snare on 2 and 4 (steps 5 and 13) and hats on every other step, then add bass.
- Brightness opens the synth's filter: low for a warm, round bass, high for a buzzy lead.
- Export is fast: the WAV is rendered quicker than real time, at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo.
- It's not a DAW. There's no audio recording, no plugins, no sample import and no effects like reverb or delay. Patterns are 16 steps (one bar).
- Keyboard: Space plays and stops, 1–8 pick patterns, Ctrl+Z undoes, and ? shows the list.
FAQ
Is this beat maker free?
Yes. There is no account, no install and no paid version. WAV export is free and unlimited.
Can I use the beats I make?
Yes. Every sound is generated by your browser from scratch, there are no samples from anyone else, so the WAV you export is yours to use.

No. It covers the first steps, drum patterns, a bassline and a simple melody arranged into a song. It has no audio recording, plugins, mixer effects or sample library.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser. Tap steps to add hits; long-press a step for an accent. Turn off silent mode on iPhone to hear sound.
